7 Months to go!
[Brett] Wow, I can’t believe Chris has already burned through the first 2 months of this program! I’d like to give the readers a little insight “behind the scenes” in the form of some quick observations of Chris’ performance.First off, Chris is a trooper, there’s no quit in this guy. He’s had 40 different excuses to fall off his plan over the last 2 months and he didn’t complain a bit. He’s had plenty of “I can’t move my arms” moments and stuck to his routine. Also it’s important to note that his “routine” is not just a series of workouts - he’s changed his entire life (sleeping, eating, exercise, etc.) and he’s doing great!Chris’ workouts are not easy at all, AND he also doesn’t cheat through his reps. How do I know these things? I’ve been right there next to him for multiple workouts where we tag-team our supersets and push each other to keep up. He keeps his form throughout the series of reps and doesn’t take any shortcuts (like not bringing the weight fully up or arching his back, etc.) to complete the sets. Also, he’s a lot stronger than I realized; he’s not some random heavy guy trying to shed some weight, he’s really an athlete trying to get back into form. I think that last sentence is really important, because it tells a bit where his mind & body are at. Chris has been a competitive swimmer and an avid mountain-biker in the past. I have a couple years’ head start on Chris doing these routines but he and I already use the same weights. It only took him a couple months to catch up and I think that’s pretty awesome — as can be evidenced by his amazing body fat to muscle transformation so far. I still have another 6 weeks of marathon training to go, and Chris is the one pushing me through these workouts.Chris is a great swimmer - I know that may have been already covered, but when the weather is warmer and we’re back in Lake Compounce for open-water swim training he’s going to SMOKE me out of the water. I’ve already started wrapping my mind around the fact that a newbie that I’m training will be 3-5 minutes ahead of me out of the water.Chris’ attitude and drive will serve him very well in this program, and he’s slowly amazing everyone at the gym. He’s not flashy and doesn’t command attention, but the folks that see him there day after day have started to realize how driven and motivated he is. My personal motto is “Be Tenacious” and that’s how I try to attack life and hit my goals; Chris seems to have that same fire and spirit to keep pushing himself and I’m very proud to be involved in this program with him.
