Day 22: Weekend and Weigh In

Well, I tried to stay SOMEWHAT active this weekend. Saturday had us cleaning house and we went out for a bit, but then Louanna and I started working on her website. Have to get it done on the weekend, since I don’t have any time during the week to help her get it up and running.  Sunday was a little better, and we were out and about a lot more, but also had adequate web design time.  All in all, I was pretty good.  I didn’t binge or go nuts on anything.  There are far fewer veggies in my house than there should be, so that’s a problem, but nothing crazy like cookies, cake, ice cream or candy.  Well, there was a piece of banana bread Sunday night, but still.

Anyway, so today was weigh-in and the 12 minute run.  I did better at today’s run.  Came in at 1.00 miles exactly.  I kept willing it to break the 1 mile mark, but to no avail.  Another 2 seconds and I think it would have flipped, but alas, the clock was against me.  So, strongest run yet.

The weigh in was another matter, though.  I actually GAINED a pound! I’m back up to 283lbs.  After last week’s craziness, I guess I shouldn’t be TOO surprised.  And Mike says the fact that I’m maintaining is pretty good, considering the circumstances, but in all, I’m sure you can understand that I was really hoping to see more weight come off.

Mike also says not to worry about it.  I’ll see some fluctuations along the way, and I shouldn’t expect 8 lb drops every week.  He says I shoud see maybe 6 lbs/month on average.  I mentioned it might have been the 4 botched workouts last week.  He said maybe, but reminded me that I was under a LOT of stress last week, so that could have affected things as well.  My wife says she’s sure its because I’m putting on muscle.  Bless that woman for being so supportive.  I’d love to know if THAT is true.  Maybe I’ll get a body fat % measurement next Monday, since it’ll be the end of the first 4 weeks.  Oddly enough, I look trimmer, and my clothes are fitting looser.

After the weigh in and run, I did my strength training routine.  Upped the weights on everything.  Hit failure on the bicep curls, nothing else.  That’s interesting, since I hit failure on a number of items last week.  I guess I’ll up the weights again on Thursday and see if I can’t hit failure more often.  I like that my muscles are able to handle weights that last week I couldn’t finish.  Good stuff.

After the workout, all I could think about was meatloaf. Meatloaf and grilled veggies. Squash and zucchini to be exact. And mashed potatoes. But mostly the meatloaf.  Must’ve been craving the protein.  Unfortunately, all they had at the cafe was junk food and salad. So, I got the chef salad.  Fortunately, I got the meatloaf, potatoes and squash for dinner. :)  To steal a line, “I love it when a plan comes together.”

Going to try to be extra focused this week.  Friday I’m driving up to Boston for Podcamp, and won’t be home until Sunday night.  I think there’s a gym at the hotel, so maybe I’ll be able to get my cardio in while I’m there.  But I can’t guarantee that, so if I only get 4 days this week, I’m going to try to make sure that they count.

Chris - Don’t worry about the scale this week. We have to look at your net loss over the month, and one week doesn’t reflect this. And Mike is right, you are probably gaining muscle and losing fat. Getting a body fat test is a great idea.

Now, if next week we have a gain as well, we have to look at your intake a little closer. But for now keep doing what you’re doing! See you soon. Jamie
