Day 19: Wrapping up a Week of Life

I didn’t post yesterday. Got buried in life. Before I get into that though, I’ll touch on yesterday and today.

Yesterday was strength training, but I was in a BIG hurry, so I went through 3 sets in less than 30 minutes. Mike was very happy with that, since it meant that I was finally going through the sets with no rest. Now THAT feels like straight cardio. My heart started pumping and my breathing felt like I was walking hard. Apparently, that’s what Mike wants ALL of my strength workouts to feel like.

Today, I swam. Only had a 1/2 hour in the pool, but I knocked out 56 lengths, so just over 3/4 miles.

Now, what do I mean about ‘buried in life?’

So, the week started off well enough, but I’ve got a lot going on. Besides my day job, I also do some evening freelance work because, well, I have to. Money is good, but tight. So, I do a few odd jobs to help loosen things up. Anyway, I’ve done a LOT of work for one client lately, but they haven’t paid me yet and the money was earmarked for some bills that are now overdue. WAY overdue. So I started stressing, and I couldn’t get to sleep Monday night. Not being able to sleep is very uncommon to me, but there it is. I finally fell asleep about 5am Tuesday morning. With only 3.5 hours of sleep, this affected my cardio workout on Tuesday. I did all 60 minutes, but I was dead tired as you can imagine. I don’t think I’ve quite recovered from the lack of sleep, either. I’m still tired. I hope this weekend fixes that.

Wednesday was better, but I had a parent/teacher meeting at 1:15, and the pool is ONLY available for lap swim from 12-1pm. So I had to cut my swim short by a 1/2 hour in order to make the meeting on time.

Thursday, I had a haircut appointment, which takes almost an hour between travel and the actual haircut. I really didn’t want to turn lunch into a 3 hour ordeal, so I had to rush the strength training (as described above).

Today, I had a meeting from 11 to noon, so I didn’t get into the pool until almost 12:30. This meant that I only had a 1/2 hour to swim. Once again, ‘life’ had affected my workout schedule.

I don’t expect this kind of interruption every week. I mean, parent/teacher conferences happen twice a year, and haircuts are only once per month. And as long as an oddly timed meeting is not on a swim day, then I can always shift the workout. But this week just stacked up poorly. So, this has been my least consistent week thus far. 4 out of 5 of my workouts were interrupted in one way or another.

Weigh in on Monday is going to be very interesting.  :???:
