Day 6: Quick Update

2 interesting things today.

First, I was VERY busy today, and I watched as the schedule I’d been working to build over the week completely fell apart. All in all, it wasn’t too disruptive, but very different. I did get a mile run in at about 6:30 PM, but my meals were all out of whack. During the run, I felt twinges of cramping in my calves, but kept adjusting my gait to keep them from actually cramping. They just aren’t used to being handled like this, I guess.

Second, my wife and I have started to come to terms with what we do and don’t have in the fridge. The bottom line is that most healthy foods we have require extensive preparation. We also don’t have a very wide variety of these types of foods. For instance, for vegetables, we have salad greens, baby carrots and frozen string beans. Most of the “quick” foods are high in carbs. Fortunately, we don’t have many foods high in sugars.

TIP:

If you want to plan a run, an awesome online tool for mapping the run is http://MapMyRun.com. They’ve hooked into Google Maps to help map the route, it calculates the distance as you go, and even uses US survey maps to calculate how much your route changes in elevation along the way. There are also some great tools there to help you find routes that other people recommend and even find groups in your area to run with.  While I WON’T be making runs that start and end at my house public, we might make some of the other routes we do public and will post a link once we have some.

Well, wedding tomorrow. Let’s see how I handle a banquet. :/
