Chris’ cholesterol - my thoughts
[Jamie] Hello and happy weekend! Just a few comments on Chris’ post today. Yes, his cholesterol is high. We can bring that down, no problem.
Simply losing weight will cause a large reduction in his total cholesterol, and my job is to make sure that his HDL (good) cholesterol does not drop, or even increases throughout this journey. HDL is cardio-protective, so the more of this we have in our bodies, in comparison to the LDL, the better. HDL can be increased by maintaining a healthy intake of unsaturated and Omega 3 fats. Thus I will be adding specific foods to his “should have in fridge” list as the weeks go by. A high LDL is caused by a number of things, including excess (fat) weight, and too high of an intake of saturated and trans fats. Also, high trglycerides are directly reflective of carbohydrate intake - too many in this case. I will be helping Chris make the best food selections to improve his lipids, and as a result he will be as healthy inside as he is out.
