Day 180: Day before First Race
So, you all might know that I ran the 2 mile course the day before yesterday. I hadn’t ‘ran’ for almost a month before that, though I’d been on the stationary bike and the elliptical machine whenever I got to the gym and for cardio days I have been hitting the swimming pool, so I was pretty sure that my lung/oxygen capacity was still pretty good. I still wasn’t sure what it would be like to just up and run 2 miles, tho. In the end, it was tiring, and I felt my muscles start to react to the run, but I finished it and felt pretty good when I was finished. “Ah,” I thought, “Piece of cake. I’ll be able to do this no problem. In fact, I’ll probably run or walk it on Friday, too.”
Yesterday, my hamstrings were on fire! I was in a seminar for the last 3 days, so lots of sitting. Every time I got up yesterday, I couldn’t even walk. I had to take several steps before my muscles would stretch out enough to allow for somewhat normal mobility.
Today, even with 2 Aleve in my system, I still felt pain in the morning and tightness for the first half of the day. Feeling better now, so I hope I can actually run tomorrow. Actually, I’m pretty confident that I’ll have no trouble with that, but still… I think its a good thing I didn’t run today.
I’ve done nothing special for this. Its a short run. Only 2 miles and 15 minutes. I didn’t carbo load or do anything else. I’m going to ’sugar’ up in the morning. Fruit about 45 minutes before the start. No water on the run. It just won’t be necessary, and it would be one more thing I’d need to carry.
Have a great evening. I’m off to bed so that I’m fairly well rested for the run.
