Day 159: Its All About the Timing

So, as expected, yesterday was a whirlwind of meetings and it totally threw my lunch and workout schedule out of whack. Instead of hitting the gym before lunch, I ended up going at about 3pm and returned to work at 5pm with a Subway sandwich in hand for a late meeting. Between lack of sleep and the screwed up schedule, I guess I was tired. It had been a couple of hours since I’d eaten, and there were no quick sugars in my system. Because of the timing of my workout in relation to my own energy levels, my workout collapsed on me fairly quickly.

I hit failure on a number of exercises during my second set, and even more on the 3rd set. I may joke about how Mike likes to inflict pain on me, but in reality I normally come out of a workout feeling tired but good. Maybe sore, too, but I still generally feel good. Yesterday I came out feeling tortured. Bordering on miserable. Last night, I took some advil before bed because my legs and other parts were sore, but mostly my legs. Actually, I think I’m going to have to do the same thing tonight. Today, I felt pretty good, though. So, miserable yesterday, but charged up today. Interesting trade-off.

Oddly enough, I lost track of my workout schedule, and yesterday wasn’t even supposed to be a strength day. It was supposed to be a cardio day. Today, numerous muscles throughout my body are still sore and I feel it mostly when I try to get up.

Today was booked again, however, and this time I didn’t have a way to fit in the workout. Which is too bad, because the TriTeam took to the roads today and did their first outdoor run of the season. It was a 5K on pretty flat roads. I’m taking in my waiver to the gym so I can officially practice with the team. I would have run today if I’d been able to adjust my schedule to fit, knee or no knee.

Tomorrow I’ll be at the pool.

I need to make an appointment to see either a sports medicine doctor or a knee doctor. I really don’t think what I’ve got is tendinitis. I’d like to have an MRI taken so I can know more about what I’m dealing with. No amount of ibuprofen seems to make a dent in the clicking in my knee.
