Day 139: The Plague Continues (and I Need a New Cameraman)
Technically, I suppose its 1am on day 140, but it still feels like Saturday, and I’m happy to see it end, finally. Its been a long day, and we’re hoping for a better Sunday.
I returned to work on Monday, but was still feeling so lousy, that I didn’t return to the gym until yesterday. I was feeling like returning on Thursday, but Thursday was a going away lunch for Brett, so instead, we all went to pizza. The biggest problem, besides just feeling tired, has been catching my breath. My lungs/nose/throat just haven’t recovered well. In fact, even now, my digestive system still feels all out of whack. I can eat, and within an hour or two, I feel all hollow and unsteady in my gut. But, I’d been dying to do something other than sit still, so Friday, I returned to the gym.
Since I basically ended up postponing the whole Ibuprofen regimen while I was sick (my cold medication contains Acetaminophen and I didn’t want to double it up with Ibuprofen) I’m doing that this week. Which means no cardio that will stress my knee, so I pretty much need to save the cardio for the pool. So, while I hadn’t been in the gym for 8 days, I figured I would go ahead and do all 3 sets since I was skipping the cardio anyway. It really killed me. I couldn’t breathe, since I’m still feeling the effects of the cold in my lungs. My muscles were really feeling each repetition of the weights. Not like the normal ‘tired’ feel, but more like I was almost hurting them. It reminded me of how I felt my first week on the program. About halfway thru the third set, I decided that if I’d been smart, I probably should have stopped at 2 sets.
Last night, my kid finally got sick, fever and all. It kept my wife and I up half of the night, so today was completely random. In fact, about 2pm, all 3 of us fell asleep and napped for a couple of hours. I spent most of the day with my girl, keeping her calm, occupied, and resting. I had been hoping to go to the pool today, but I think at 4am, I realized that it was going to be unlikely. Instead, I focused on resting myself as well, in hopes of kicking the remnant of this darn cold. I’m also not sure my kid has the same thing I had last week. When I got my fever, it lasted less than 8 hours. It kicked in while I was sleeping, and ended pretty much the next morning. My girl has had her fever for more than 24 hours now and has somewhat different symptoms. Its possible she’s actually got the flu.
Finally, my muscles started to REALLY feel sore this afternoon. Yesterday’s workout has finally started to take its toll, and my arms are hurting. I’m very tired, and if it hadn’t been a week since I’d posted last, probably wouldn’t even be awake right now.
I’m hoping to hit the gym again tomorrow, and since Monday is a holiday and the gym is closed, I’ll have to do my 5 month weigh-in on Tuesday. However, Mike is on vacation all next week, and Brett is gone, so this will be the first time I really will feel on my own. Especially on a monthly weigh-in. The workout schedule is also not changing in the next couple of weeks.
I think I need a new camera-man. Any volunteers?
