Day 128: Weigh In = Breathless
As I said before, we skipped Monday. Brett and I both had to be at a business lunch, so I weighed in on Tuesday instead. After weighing in at 262 last Saturday, it was interesting to see the scale hit 264 lbs 3 days later. But not surprising, really. I seem to be kind of stuck right around here. As for the run, for some reason I simply couldn’t get my breath. At 11 minutes I had to drop my running speed back to 6mph in order to keep going. It was very difficult, mentally to do that, but it just had to be done. I simply couldn’t maintain 7.2 mph any longer. Total mileage in 12 minutes was 1.33 mi.
After the weigh-in and run, I introduced Brett to my Monday workout. When I described it to him, he didn’t sound too thrilled. I think he thought it would be boring. Once we started, though, he really seemed to enjoy it. However, Mike found himself with nothing to do, and as any good coach would do, had me going faster and heavier. It was at this point that I started hitting muscle failure. It was HARD. The last few times I’d done this, I was on my own, so I could rest just a little more if I needed to. Not today. Brett lapped me and kept on going.
I hit muscle failure a number of times, but kept going the best I could. Brett and I talked about it over lunch. He said something to the effect of ‘Mike and I sometimes forget that you’re doing all of this with an extra 110 lbs.’ What? Really? 110 lbs? Yep. Turns out that Brett is just over 150lbs. I’ve NEVER been 150 lbs. Right out of Basic Training I was DOWN to 180lbs. At that point, I was so lean I could see my stomach muscles ripple when I coughed. So, anyway, yeah. Jumping up, then squatting down and doing a pushup 8-10 times is a hard thing for me to do. Especially when I’ve just pushup-ed my way across the room in the previous exercise. And its all extremely cardio as well. I just couldn’t catch my breath. Same problem I had during my 12 minute run. Next week will be better.
