Day 126: Superbowl Sunday!
Bet you thought that since today was Superbowl Sunday that I ate horribly, right? Wrong! I think…
But let’s start with Saturday, shall we? Its quick. I went to the gym and worked out. I tell you, Saturday workouts are the best workouts of the week. Totally stress free. I didn’t realize that my weekday workouts had stress in them, but they do. I’m always watching the clock, thinking about when I need to be back to work. Its like that darned timer on the bomb during a TV show or a movie. Then its a mad dash off to grab some food and eat at my desk while working.
On Saturday, however, I workout and don’t ever look at the clock. I don’t have to be anywhere. And the last couple of times I’ve worked out on Saturday, I’ve been able to just walk over the the cafeteria and grab some lunch and sit down and enjoy it. No rush to get back to the office or eating at my desk while checking my email or answering voice mail. Nice, calm, relaxing, and completely enjoyable. I might ask Mike to keep a Saturday workout on the schedule, if it works out for my wife, too. The downside, of course, is that the weekends are generally time with the family. I’ll just need to get to the gym earlier so that I’m home about noon, rather than 2 or 3.
One thing I’d like to make note of is that I DID NOT RUN AT ALL on Saturday. That darned clicking is now happening ALL THE TIME. It used to just happen after a workout. Now it happens with every step I make. It also didn’t used to happen on the arc trainer, but now it does at least half of the time. There’s still no clicking on the bike or the stair mill, and I think its because of the way my weight shifts during those exercises. It also doesn’t happen on the Eliptical trainer, and I think its because my weight never comes completely off of either leg. I’m a bit worried about it, and will probably schedule an appointment with my doctor for this week. However, Mike showed up as I was leaving and we talked about it. He seems to think its nothing except overworked tendons. He says most of his body clicks these days. So, now I’m a bit less worried than I was during the workout, but I’m still gonna have it looked at. Why not, that’s what HMOs are for, anyway. I also did a “pre Superbowl” weigh in, and came in at 262 lbs. Wonder if I’ll still be at 262 next week?
Now, back to Sunday.
Since I skipped Friday’s workout, I’d hoped to get to the gym for 40-60 minutes of cardio. Normally I wouldn’t work out on a Sunday, since I have the weigh-in and 12 minute run on Monday, but not this week. This week I’ve got a business lunch to attend. They’re taking all of us who’ve won an award this last year out to eat and I guess our bosses are going to say some nice stuff about us. Anyway, this pretty much destroys Monday’s options for a workout for me, so we’re pushing it off until Tuesday. Personally, I can’t wait for Brett to try Monday’s workout. Its a killer. He’ll like it.
Oh, right. Today. This morning’s schedule fell apart fairly early, and I ended up losing a couple of hours, so I wasn’t able to get to the gym. On the other hand, I was very tired, and ended up not eating much, and in fact, napping part of this afternoon, so it was a pretty low calorie intake day in general. It wasn’t a run, to be sure, but it also wasn’t a ‘chow down’ Superbowl day, either. In all, I feel fairly good about this weekend. Especially when I consider that these days, a “bad day” is me eating 4 or 6 cookies rather than 2. Before it would have been me eating several cookies with ice cream. Pizza for dinner. Italian grinder on white bread and a side of chips with a soda for lunch, and pancakes or frosted mini wheats for breakfast.
