Day 121: Snap, Crackle and Pop

That’s the sound my left knee makes. Today was a simple cardio day, and I REALLY wanted to run a 5k. I had about 40 minutes to spare, and roughly 3 miles (5k) at 12 minutes/mile (5mph) should have just hit the spot.

However, with the 12 minute run yesterday and several of the jumping exercises in my Monday workout (there are 3, times 3 sets) my legs started off pretty tired to begin with. And my head is still fairly stuffed, though it wasn’t as bad as yesterday.

About 2k into the run, my left foot started to feel a bit numb. Its not new, but before I was told that it was probably just my shoes tied too tight. So, I stopped real quick and loosened my shoes. It didn’t really help the numbness at all. Next on the list is to try new shoes, I think.

About 2.5k, my shins started to kill me. It had started off earlier in the run as a dull burn, but it just kept building in intensity. I decided at 3k to just get off the treadmill rather than risk ending my training with shin splints. So, I moved to the eliptical runner and finished the 5k on that. Because of the way it moves, there’s much less strain on the shins.

Then, there’s this loud >snap< and >pop< noise I get every time I step with my left leg. Its coming from the knee. I always hear it during a run, and usually hear it after a run, but this was after a run that was after a day w/ a run and jumping. Today it just seemed extra loud to me. The sound carries up my skeletal structure and right into my left ear drum, so its VERY noticeable to me, even if no one else can hear it. I don’t know if they can or not, I’ve never asked.

Its actually starting to concern me, so I think I’ll go see a doctor about it soon. Find out why it only happens to one knee and not the other. Is it a calcium growth? Is it destroyed knee cartilage? I just don’t know, but I’d like to find out before I get premature arthritis or something.

Anyway, if I thought I was sore before workout today, I’m probably going to be really sore tomorrow.

Oh, and last night a piece of my filling popped out of my tooth, so I started the day off with a quick drill-n-fill. Not that that has anything to do with anything. Just thought I’d mention it.
