Day 115: Last Year’s Fashions, Today!

So, today’s workout was 25 minutes in the pool. I’m sore, especially in the left shoulder, from Tuesday’s workout.  It almost feels like I might have torn or pulled something in the shoulder.  Instead of risking doing more damage to the shoulder, I did a nice, easy, stretching swim.  I did 1/2 mile in 20 minutes, and then spent the last 5 on the kick board.  I focused on my swimming form.  I’ve noticed that during fast swims, like last week’s, that my form isn’t what it should be.  I could be getting more speed if I keep my form consistent, so I need to watch that.

The interesting stuff happened when I got home this evening, though.  First, my wife had a present for me: a brand new pair of swim trunks.  This was a pleasant surprise because for the past month I’ve been trying to find a new pair of swim trunks, which is no easy feat during the winter in New England.  The reason I’ve been looking is because my current swim suit is too big.  It was actually a bit large when I started this project anyway, but now its WAY too big.  With the string cinched in as tight as it can go, the suit bunches up all around my waist. With the string loose, the suit pulls a good 4-5 inches away from my waist.  I wish I could say that I’ve actually lost that many inches, but like I’ve said, the suit was already a bit large when I started.

My wife’s present was oddly in sync with the plans that I had already made for this evening.  I’ve got 2 boxes of clothes that I’ve kept even though I’ve outgrown them.  So, tonight I went thru the boxes to see if I could resurrect any of the clothes from the box.  I found a few shirts, a couple pair of khakis, my old swim suit (but the elastic is shot) and even 2 pairs of shorts that made it back into the mix.  The majority of the clothes are still too small, though.  Kind of frustrating was this whole stack of “just another inch or two” shirts.  They ALMOST fit, but are still a bit tight around the tummy.  Maybe next month?  Certainly by this summer they’ll fit.  Then, I’ve got a whole box of stuff that I’ll be lucky to fit into after I lose another 30 lbs.  Ahh, well.  It took me 7 years to outgrow half of this stuff.  Guess I shouldn’t be too disappointed that I didn’t reverse it in 4 short months.

After that, though, I went thru my closet and pulled a bunch of shirts from the mix.  My wife has been telling me lately that some of my clothes are horrendously too large for me.  Since she’s the one complaining that some of my clothes should never be worn again, I dragged her into the process.  I told her that anything I should NEVER wear again should come out, and anyhthing that was borderline would stay in the loop for now, so that I didn’t have to walk around shirtless.  In all, we pulled about a dozen shirts that are just too large for me to wear, fitting horribly and making me look dumpy when I wear them.  Almost that number are on the ‘almost’ list, waiting for a decision in the next month or two.  Since I put back into circulation less that half that number, I’m probably gonna have to start shopping soon.
