Behind the Scenes @ Winter X (not really)

[Brett] Ok, so there’s not going to be any tabloid scoops from my behind the scenes coverage - I just wanted to give a little peek into the last few days in Aspen and give Chris some mad props on his skinniness! Can’t wait to see you CW, keep up the great work! I miss our workout routines, I’ve been stuck with pushups, situps and dips in my hotel room each nite.

Aspen is beautiful, everywhere you look is a picturesque snow-covered peak, not to mention 5-8 foot snowbanks every few feet. Amazingly enough, the snow doesn’t seem to get “in the way” like it does in New England - it doesn’t seem to slow anyone or anything down. The busses are on a regular schedule, everyone is hustling from one place to another and everything seems normal. In CT, this much snow would be cause for a state-wide shutdown. Downtown Aspen seems to be the highest-end retail area in the world - at least a little mountainside Rodeo Drive. There are shops for all the beautiful people to buy really expensive things. Really rich old guys wearing full-length fur coats… Good times.

Winter X is great so far, this crew is pretty awesome and a fun group of characters. The last few days have been the ramp-up and a lot of loose ends and small tasks abound. Whether it be shoveling or stuffing binders I’ve been pitching in where they need it. The courses are nearing completion and I’ll be out on the slopestyle and skier/boarder X courses for practice and races. This is kickass - exactly where I’d like to be. These courses are HUGE and the jumps & bumps are so much larger in person. It is awesome to see the mountain come alive, and it’s totally worth the 10-12 hour days to see this come together. The temps have fluctuated from -6 to 20 degrees so far and there’s a light snow most of the time. When the sun pokes through the snowy haze it is absolutely spectacular. So far no frozen fingers or toes, it’ll be a bit colder when I spend the next week up on the courses.

UPDATE: I just walked the entire Skier/Boarder X Course from the top (got a ride from one of the snowmobile taxis we have lined up at the bottom). The course is 1 mile long and pretty gnarly. It’s still a little rough and getting massaged by the crew of snowcats. After that I walked up the superpipe and got to see it up close - absolutely awesome! I forgot my iPhone, so I’ll have to make another trip for pictures.

Cool! Can’t wait to see the pictures.

I didn’t realize you’d posted, or I wouldn’t have trounced you with my non-event post I just put up.

As for sit-ups/push-up/dips. See, in my mind, I wouldn’t even bother doing that stuff, yet. Its not that much a part of me. I just don’t think about it. I’m surprised you’re finding time to workout after 10 hour days hoofing it in the snow, anyway.

Will we see you on TV?
