Sprint Triathlon Swim Course

.4 mile swim in Lake Compounce, (2) waves denoted by swim cap colors. The swim wave will be clockwise around (2) guide buoys and (2) turn buoys and back to the beach . Swimmers will keep the buoys to their right turning right at the second and third bouys (see illustration below) then pass the fourth bouy and head back to beach, then run to the transition area.

Please note, running from the beach to transition will be over sand and asphalt. If you have very tender feet please plan accordingly. Lifeguards will be posted on a dock between the bouys as well as in kayaks/boats around the perimiter.

Sprint Triathlon Bike Course

The bike course will consist of (2) loops.
When you retrieve your bike from the transition area, make sure your helmet is strapped. Run your bike to the sign marked "bike" and then mount your bike in the designated area. There will be no bike riding in the transition area. After mounting the bike, (note: make sure your bike is in a low climbing gear) you will climb a small but steep hill out of the parking lot and turn right. Follow Lake Ave. about 1.5 miles, then turn left on Sunnydale Ave. and loop back to Lake southbound. Follow Lake for approx. 3 miles (Lake becomes Mount Vernon Rd.) and then turn left on Mountain Pond Road. Follow Mountain Pond and return to Mount Vernon and head back towards Lake Compounce and begin the second loop. Caution; watch for slower riders entering the course. At the end of the second loop, slow to a near stop before entering the road to the transition area as the corner is sharp and steep. DO NOT dismount until you reach the dismount area. Dismount your bike in the designated area and run your bike in following the "bike" sign. Please rack your bike properly.

  • Headphones are not allowed during bike leg
  • No passing in designated dangerous areas
  • Penalties will be assessed in 8 minute increments for breaking the rules. 3 strikes and you will be disqualified.

Sprint Triathlon Run Course

From transition, exit through the gate that says "run" and you'll be on your way. The first hill, a 100ft. climb, starts at approximately 1/2 mile. After the hill, there is a slight descent into a curve as you exit the Lake Compounce entrance. Upon turning left onto Enterprise Drive, you begin another short climb, then turn left onto Century Drive. Turn left onto Crystal Pond and pass a water station. Turn left onto Horizon Drive, then turn right onto Enterprise, downhill back through the Lake Compounce access road. After a slight uphill, the final downhill and a flat section you'll run to the finish line located at the entryway tunnel of Lake Compounce.
